Academia Barilla to 150 years of Italian Navy

Academia Barilla ai 150 anni della Marina Militare Italiana The 150 years of Italian unification is also the celebration of the birth of the Italian Navy; the anniversary celebrations were held on 10th June in La Spezia in the presence of the Head of State. The gala dinner took place at the Prefecture of the Ligurian town, established 150 years ago thanks to the intuition of Cavour who was planning to set up the army’s arsenal in that place: the dinner’s buffet was set up by Fabio Campoli and included a selection of dishes present on different historical menus of the Navy, dated between 1894 and 1941 from the collections of Academia Barilla, of Bertarelli in Milan and of Oretta Zanini De Vita in Rome.
The clever recovery operation of the historic kitchen board is due to Captain Alessandro Pini. For the occasion, the Navy published an illustrated 32-page book that recreates the old menus, the recipes of the chosen dishes and historical notes.
Academia Barilla is proud to have collaborated - for its own specific culinary field – to the initiatives of the Italian Navy, contributing to the recovery of a great on board culinary tradition.
