Gaetano Palumbo, the 38 -year-old native of Sicily, hails from the town of Sciacca in the Agrigento Province.
This old fishing town, pushed up against the clear blue waters of the Mediterranean, is regarded as being at the culinary heart of traditional Sicilian cuisine.
Growing up in such an environment, Gaetano was inspired to become a chef at an early age.
“In Sicily cooking is a central part of family life. Italians are passionate about good food and high quality produce” says Gaetano. “Living there, learning to cook is as important as enjoying the pleasures of eating fine food. Growing up surrounded by good food, the desire to cook was strong for me. It was a very natural process.”
From humble beginnings, and with cooking clearly in his blood, Chef Gaetano quickly scaled the culinary heights to become recognized as a master of the art of Italian cuisine.
His experiences included two of the world’s leading hotels in Rome, The Lord Byron and The Hassler Hotel, and Toscana Italian restaurant in the Sherwood Hotel in Taipei where his skilled direction established the restaurant as the finest Italian dining in Taipei. With the dynamic culinary scene of Bangkok, Chef Gaetano has called Bangkok a home since 2006. Prior to Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel & Towers, Chef Gaetano worked at Rossini’s Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit where he drove the reputation of the restaurant to its very best.
Currently, chef Gaetano enjoys working at the first Italian restaurant in Bangkok’s riverside hotel where he revamped the entire menu to showcase his creative combination between authentic and modern Italian cuisine to its very best.
