RESTAURANTS and CAFE'S

- Parma Rotta - Housed in a former postal inn, it features a unique large roasting grill that diners can admire from their seats; the owner Antonio is also proud of his deep cellar that includes superb wines from Italy and abroad.

- Osteria Mascalzoni - Traditional regional specialties get a little modern twist in this lovely restaurant that draws a younger crowd; it is located in the heart of the historical center of Parma.

- Il Cortile - An elegant restaurant that serves traditional Parma dishes made to perfection and offers the garden seating in the summer will exercise all of your senses.

- I Tre Porcelini - Three Piglets is the name of this lovely neighborhood trattoria; renowned for its cheese and cold cuts selections.

- Parizzi - Alta Cucina Italiana finds its home in this high-end, innovative restaurant that is only a few steps from the Academia Barilla Campus.

- Cafe San Biaggio - The favorite lunch spot for our students; during spring and summer, its cozy outdoor seating draws a crowd.

SITES in PARMA

- Ducale Gardens - This large and luscious park dates back to 1560 when the local aristocracy hired Europe's premier landscape designers to create a garden worthy of Parma's prestige; the park surrounds the neoclassical Palazzo Ducale - former home of Maria Luigia, the wife of Napoleon Bonaparte.

- Palazzo della Pilotta - Built in the 16th century by the Farnese family, this majestic edifice now houses the Biblioteca Palatina, Archeological Museum, and the admired Teatro Farnese (photo above right); In front of the palace is an extensive park that becomes the center of town's life during sunny afternoons and weekends.

- Piazza Duomo - Early renaissance Duomo and Battistero are the main historical attractions of Parma.

AROUND PARMA

- Castle of Torrechiara (photo above right) - A renaissance castle just outside Parma; a lovely venue for a day-trip or a special lunch.

- Antique Fair - Once a month, the nearby town of Fontanellato hosts an extensive antique fare.
